Southern Tier Sports ReportCORNING — Dom Capilli scored, and Hunter Grant stopped a penalty kick as the Elmira boys’ soccer team beat Corning 1-0 on Friday night.
Capilli scored off a Nolan Kennedy assist and Grant made his third penaltykick save of the year and got his seventh clean sheet of the season.
“Always great to get a result at Corning, which is typically a tough place to play,” Elmira coach Derek Hamilton said. “Defensively, we were really tough to break down, as we have been all season. Chase Christian, Cam Riley, Ayvre Traugott-Knoll, Jackson Teeter, and goalkeeper Hunter Grant have been studs for all year and we leaned on them a bit today. When we can organize defensively, and stay disciplined, we find success.”
For Corning it was one breakdown that cost them.
“We reduced to a single breakdown tonight, but were just not quite capable of finishing an opportunity ourselves,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “Hard fought match by both teams.”
