Southern Tier Sports ReportCORNING — A pair of second-half goals was the difference as the Corning girls’ soccer team fell to Vestal 2-0 on Thursday.
“We played some of our best soccer in the first half and went into halftime tied 0-0,” Corning coach Julie Pierce said. “WE came out flat in the second half and never really found our offensive rhythm. We had a few good opportunities to tie the game, but just missed connecting on the weak side.
“We need to find a way to put together two complete halves and capitalize on our scoring chances.”
Corning outshot Vestal 10-7 with Karina Swarthout recording five saves in goal for the Hawks.
Mia Benko and Layla Antesberger had the goals for Vestal.
