Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — After a 14-14 first quarter, CNS outscored the Express 20-7 the rest of the way as Elmira fell at home, 34-21 to Cicero-North Syracuse.
Ryan Goble got Elmira on the board first with a 10-yard scoring run at 2:01 into the game. Ben Guyette hit the extra point and it was 7-0.
Noah Caveny of CNS caught a 69-yard touchdown from Braydon Dems just 1:25 later and Shepherd Polos hit the extra point.
Caveny then had a 38-yard fumble return 15 seconds later taking the ball away from an Elmira ball carrier and running it in. Polos hit the kick to put CNS up 14-7.
Goble had his second score of the opening quarter with 4:24 left in the first as he ran in from 21 yards away and Guyette hit the kick.
At 8:00 of the second quarter Zaier Escho caught a 44-yard touchdown from Dems and Polos hit the kick as CNS went up 21-14.
Manny Vargas had a two-yard run at 4:31 of the third quarter and the kick was blocked.
After an Elmira fumble gave the ball back to CNS Escho caught a 20-yard touchdown from Dems with 10:42 left in the game and Polos hit the kick.
Baby Harris had a 50-yard punt return, then capped the drive with a four-yard scoring run with 5:11 left in the game and Guyette hit the kick to cap the scoring.
Dems was 13-for-20 for 303 yards and three scores, throwing an interception. Goble was 3-for-5 for 38 yards.
Harris had 69 rushing yards on nine carries, had all three catches for 38 yards and had a 44-yard interception return in the game.
Vargas ran for 31 yards for CNS.
Caveny had three grabs for 157 yards, Escho had four catches for 100 yards in the game.
