Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Corning girls’ tennis team picked up a 6-0 victory over Horseheads on Wednesday night at Cohen Elementary.
In second singles Ella Alberg of Corning won 6-3, 6-3 over Kaitlyn Soper of Horseheads.
Sophia Rim won 6-2, 6-1 over Lydia Mackey at third singles and Rebecca Spike won 6-3, 6-1 over Niya Sharma at fourth singles.
In first doubles Kate Scanlon and Jaedyn Vernacolota won 6-1, 6-2 over Hannah Mattoon and Ella Scibek.
In second doubles Taylor Kaelin and Natalie Ginalski won 6-0, 6-1 over Peyton Peterson and Ellie Pagano. In third doubles Lila Capranella and Tess Barber won 6-3, 6-1 over Addie Pronti and Emily Amey.
The Hawks won the six matches completed. In first singles Laura Cummings of Horseheads won the first set 6-4 over Kassidy McNeill of Corning, but then the rain hit stopping the match.
