Southern Tier Sports ReportSPENCER — The Edison girls’ soccer team was tied at two at the half, before falling to Spencer Van-Etten/Candor, 6-3.
SVEC struck first at 13:49 of the first half when Alexandra Lyon scored.
Marlee Savino scored less than a minute later at 14:32 off an Eliza Crandall assist.
Lyon scored at 21:41, before seventh-grader Paige Weber scored her first career goal off a Sydney Gibbs assist at 33:20 to tie the game at the half.
Mel Stevens scored at 44:28 and 45:27 of the second half to put SVEC up 4-2. Crandall scored at 58:38 off a Savino assist to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Lyon scored her third and fourth goals of the game less than a minute apart to seal the win for SVEC at 65:19 and 66:11.
SVEC had 19 shots and four corners and Edison had eight shots and a corner. Kaylynn Tarby had 12 saves for Edison and SVEC had two saves.
“SVEC has multiple quick and dynamic players upfront that proved to be the difference tonight,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “Goalie Kaylynn Tarby had a terrific showing for us, keeping us in the game for much of the match. We did well as a group to come back and level the score twice in the first half, but a few missed opportunities early in the second half opened the door for SVEC to capitalize and put us in a tough spot having to chase the game.”
