Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — Athletic director Brad Bellinger will assume the role as interim head coach of the Notre Dame boys’ basketball team for the upcoming season.
Bellinger takes over as coach Nick Weirmiller announced he was taking a sabbatical from coaching to focus on his family’s needs.
Bellinger brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the Notre Dame athletic community. He previously served as the boys’ junior varsity basketball coach for the Crusaders from 2019-21 before serving as an assistant varsity coach at Elmira High School in 2022, retuning as an assistant varsity coach at Notre Dame in 2023.
For the past three years Bellinger has served as Notre Dame’s athletic director.
As a player Bellinger enjoyed an outstanding varsity career at Elmira Southside High School from 2008-11 where he became the program’s all-time leading scorer.
“We wish coach Weirmiller well on his year sabbatical from coaching varsity basketball and are delighted Mr. Bellinger has stepped forward to coach our players this school year,” said Mrs. Bernadette McClellan, head of school.
