After a successful season for area teams there were some tough choices for the Southern Tier Sports Report girls’ lacrosse All-Star team.
Horseheads’ Lauren Kozemko is the Player of the Year. A USA Lacrosse All-American selection, Kozemko is signed to play at Division I Albany. She had 45 goals and nine assists on the year and was the Section IV, Division I Player of the Yearear.
There are co-offensive players of the year. Lexi Lese of Horseheads is a Division I signee at Niagara and she led the area with 42 assists, along with 23 goals. Corning’s Brynna Walsh led the area with 85 points, with 53 goals and 32 assists. She also had 30 caused turnovers and 106 draw controls.
The Breakout player of the year is Elmira’s Avery McCauley. She had 53 goals and 18 assists for 71 points.
The defensive player of the year is Kaelyn McCarthy of Horseheads. She was a Section IV, Division I all-star who anchored the Blue Raiders defense as they won sectionals.
Blue Raiders goalie Kate Rought is the goaltender of the year. She had 91 saves to help lead Horseheads to a sectional title. She was a first-team Section IV all-star.
Aubrey Rose of Corning moved from defense to midfield. She finished the year with 20 goals and 16 assists, along with 21 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and 14 Draw controls and is the newcomer of the year.
Horseheads coach Jennifer Guzylak is the coach of the year after leading the Blue Raiders to a sectional title.
Kozemko, Rought, McCarthy, McCauley, Lese, Walsh, Rose, Corning’s Ronn Nevins and Kennedy Driscoll, Elmira’s Gianna Capilli and Hailey Hamilton, and Horseheads’ CarLynn Sindlinger, Emma Guzylak and Ellie Jankowski make up the Baker’s Dozen of the Area’s best.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Lauren Kozemko, Horseheads
* A USA Lacrosse All-American selection. Signed to play D1 at Albany. Had 45 goals and nine assists on the year. Was the Section IV, Division I Player of the Year.
CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Lexi Lese, Horseheads
* Had 23 goals and 42 assists. A Section IV, Division I all-star. A D1 signee who will play at Niagara. Led area players in assists.
Brynna Walsh, Corning
* Had 53 goals and 32 assists on the year. Also had 30 caused turnovers and 106 draw controls.
BREAKOUT PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Avery McCauley, Elmira
* Had 53 goals and 18 assists for 71 points in 16 games. Finished with 34 ground balls, 18 caused turnovers and was 43-of-53 on draw controls.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kaelyn McCarthy, Horseheads
* Section IV Division I first-team all-star defender. Helped lead the Blue Raiders to sectional title.
GOALIE OF THE YEAR: Kate Rought, Horseheads
* A first-team Section IV, Division I all-star. Had 91 saves to help lead Horseheads to a sectional title.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Aubrey Rose, Corning
* Started as a defender and moved to midfield where she thrived. She finished the year with 20 goals, 16 assists, 21 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and 14 draw controls.
COACH OF THE YEAR: Jennifer Guzylak, Horseheads
* Led the Blue Raiders to a sectional championship.

* Had 27 goals and eight assists. Finished with 34 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and 49 draw controls.
Gianna Capilli, Elmira
* Had 24 goals and eight assists in 14 games. Ha da team high 58 draw control wins and 10 caused turnovers.
Hailey Hamilton, Elmira
* Finished with an area best 129 saves in goal, with 13 ground balls.

* A section-team Section IV all-star. Had 38 goals and 14 assists.

* A section IV, Division I second-team all-star. Had 14 goals and six assists with 21 draw controls.

* A second-team Section IV all-star. Had 30 goals, eight assists and 65 draw controls.
