Southern Tier Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — The Horseheads baseball team advance to the sectional final with a 5-1 win over Binghamton on Wednesday night in game two of the best of three semifinals.
The Blue Raiders won the series 2-0 and advance to the championship at home on Tuesday against Vestal in game one of a best of three.
Mason Markle went the distance on the mound on Wednesday, allowing one run and four hits, and striking out a career-high 15 batters.
Dmitri Charlanow tied the game at one in the third with a leadoff home run.
Kegan Monahan had two hits and Cooper Ball, Lyncoln Bennett, Hunter Matkosky and Becky Doane each had hits in the game.
Ball had two RBI, while Bennett, Matkosky and Charlanow had the other RBI in the game.
Monahan, Ball, Bennett, Charlanow and Chase Mashnic scored runs for the Blue Raiders, who are 15-6 on the year.
