CORNING — Horseheads’ Lincoln Choe and Dom Wood advanced to the state qualifiers with a three-set win at sectionals in the third-place match on Friday.
After the tournament didn’t finish on Thursday the semifinals, title matches and third place matches took place on Friday.
After falling 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals to the top doubles team from Ithaca, who won the title, the Blue Raiders got a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win over the top Union-Endicott team in the third-place match.
In singles Corning’s Derek Guo lost a hard-fought three-set match to Andrew Mancini of Union-Endicott in the third-place match.
Geu won the first set 6-3, before Mancini won 6-4, 6-2.
Geu ended up in the third-place match after a 6-1, 7-5 loss to Jacob Conti of Union-Endicott. The 7-5 set was the closest Conti played all tournament, he had no other sets in the tournament closer than 6-2.
