CORNING — The Elmira Express picked up a 20-18 win over Corning on Thursday night for their second straight win.

It was senior night for the Hawks as they honored their lone senior Adrian Makitra before the game.

Once the game started the Hawks struck first on a 61-yard touchdown run by Sydney Kiczenski.

Elmira had another big game from freshman quarterback Marley Devlin, who went 11-for-20 passing for 141 yards and a score. She had a 17-yard scoring strike to junior Hayden Baker. Devlin also ran 15 times of 105 yards and two scores.

“Marley has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “The game is starting to slow down for her, and she’s becoming a real weapon both throwing and running the football.”

Ella Devlin ran seven times for 43 yards and she had three grabs for 32 yards and Gracelyn Wheeler had four catches for 24 yards, while Kayvonna king had had two catches for 41 yards.

Defensively Wheeler and King each had interceptions, while Devlin came up with one of the biggest plays of the game late with a key flag pull for a loss to help secure the victory.

“A huge part of this win was our effort and next-player-up mentality,” Allen said. “Hayden Baker, Mareena Osborne and Laci Pronti all stepped into bigger roles because of injuries and gave us tremendous effort.

“WE’re starting to come together at the right time. Mady Wasicki, Janelle Tomisman, Ava Preston and Ella Devlin, amongst others, have given us tremendous leadership and have helped keep this group focused and connected.”
