ELMIRA — Gaffer City FC picked up a 1-1 tie with Syracuse FC to kick off their season at Elmira College on Wednesday night.
Moving up to the premier division of the UPSL this year, Gaffer City struck first on a goal from Taylor Freelove.
Freelove missed the high school season with an injury, but returned to the field in grand fashion on Wednesday.
Syracuse FC scored 10 minutes later to tie the game and that concluded the scoring in the game.
Gaffer FC features a number of local standouts, including Taylor and Nate Freelove of Corning, along with former Corning goalie Caleb Anderson and former Horseheads stars Ben Church and Elijah Friend.
Starters who are local also include Corning grad Zach Dann.
