Southern Tier Sports ReportCORTLAND — The Edison baseball team went 1-1 at the Lumberyard High School Classic on Saturday.
Edison won 18-1 over Waterloo and were edged by Hoosic Falls 4-3. In 9 innings.
“In the first game we had every opportunity to win, but could not get the timely hit,” Edison coach Chris Bennett said. “In between games we talked about being more aggressive at the plate and the guys responded. We are a young team, still finding our stride. We are definitely moving in the right direction. I am really proud of our guys for responding and coming back and winning the second game.”
In the opener Tanner Buchanan worked seven innings for Edison, striking out 10 and allowing four hits and two walks. Paxton Hoover pitched two innings, striking out five and allowing a walk and two hits.
Jace Schiller was 2-for-3 with a triple and Paxton Hoover was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Bently Stroman had a hit and an RBI.
In the win over Waterloo the Spartans got a complete game, five inning, win by Braedyn Gulich, who struck out seven and allowed three hits. He also was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.
Alijuwan Hall was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and seven RBI and Stroman was 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBI.
Hoover was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Schiller had a triple and two RBI. Niko Cheplick had two hits and an RBI and Conor McNeely had an RBI.
