ELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison tennis team has big numbers as they head into the new season.
“I’m sitting at 21 right now, so I actually had to split practices with team one and team two, that’s how we did it when I was in high school,” Edison coach George Pesesky said.
The Spartans split into two practices that overlap to accomodate the bigger numbers this season.
“It seems to be working,” Pesesky said.
The bigger numbers mean the team will have plenty of options when the season begins.
“Lots of potential out there, for sure,” Pesesky said.
For the Spartans it’s fun to be back preparing for a new season.
“We have a lot more kids this year than normal,” Pesesky said. “For the most part it’s exciting. It’s nice to see the kids again.”
The season started with warm weather the first few days of spring practices, before things cooled down. The warmer weather added to the excitement to start the year.
“It was excellent, everyone was excited,” Pesky said.
