COLLEGE WOMEN'S LACROSSE: EC GETS TWO GOALS FROM STEWART, BUT FALLS IN SEASON OPENER (2026-03-11)

LMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's lacrosse team opened up their home schedule with a Wednesday night matchup with Wilkes University Colonels. The Soaring Eagles fought to the finish but ultimately fell, 18-3.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Colonels hit the board first, before shortly extending to a 2-0 lead. Not too long after, Kelsey Stewart netted the Soaring Eagles first goal with a little over 6 minutes to go in the first quarter. Wilkes tallied one more goal while Stewart matched that and scored one more as well before the quarter came to a finish bringing the score, 3-2.

Beginning the second quarter, Wilkes University went on a big run, scoring four quick goals in the first six minutes. Sandra Angell was able to put a stop to Wilkes' streak by scoring a goal herself. But, even after the Soaring Eagles' attempt, Wilkes was able to score one more before the halftime buzzer went off.

The Colonels carried their offensive moment into the third period, scoring seven goals. Wilkes University led the shots on goal decision 8-0, as they went into the final period with a 15-3 advantage. The Colonels were able to seal the deal in the fourth quarter by adding three more goals to their total to secure the 18-3 decision.

The Soaring Eagles return to Campus Field to honor the Class of 2026 for a 4:00pm matchup against Keuka College on Friday, March 13.
