HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA FALLS BEHIND EARLY IN LOSS TO SHENENDEHOWA (2026-01-23)

ALBANY — The Elmira girls’ basketball team fell behind early and never recovered in an 82-34 loss to Shenendehowa. 

Elmira played Shenendehowa and Horseheads played Averill Park and tomorrow the Express and Blue Raiders switch opponents. 

Shen scored the first 21 points on their way to the win on Friday. 

Meya Smith led Elmira with 12 points and Anna Osborne and Tamariah Brown each had four points in the game.

Ava Roberts had three points and McKenzie Dickerson, Kayvonna King, Avery McCauley, Shamir Harris and Mariah Matias had two points each, while Abigail Valicenti had a point. 

“Put this one away and try and come back tomorrow and play a little bit better agains another tough team,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “We came up here to play these games to see where we are and to be able to compete and I just want to be able to see us do that.”
