Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Horseheads girls’ basketball team held off Elmira on Tuesday night 45-41 in STAC girls’ basketball action.
Horseheads led 13-0 to start the game, but Elmira started to chip away. The Express got within 16-11 after one quarter and 26-21 at the half.
The Blue Raiders outscored Elmira 15-7 in the third to lead 41-28, but Elmira outscored Horseheads 13-4 in the fourth to give themselves a shot.
Maddie Ribble had 16 points and Sam Bonnell finished with 12 points.
Giana Hughey had eight points and Maggie Tremaine finished with five points for Horseheads.
Ellie Jankowski had two points and Sadie Gustin and Mya Piecuch had one point each.
Mariah Matias led Elmira with 12 points and Meya Smith and Kayvonna King had eight points each.
Tamiah Brown had seven points for Elmira and Avigail Valicenti had four points, while Ava Roberts finished with two points.
