CORNING — It was a milestone day for Corning senior Clayton Smith at the Greg Partridge Memorial Duals on Saturday.
Smith got a pin against Newark Valley, giving him 100 career victories.
“It’s really exciting,” Smith said. “I’m just glad to be out here with the boys wrestling, rolling around on the mat. It’s something special. Not many kids are able to do that. I’m very fortunate.”
For Smith getting the milestone at home made things even more special.
“I really wanted to do it here,” Smith said. “Me and my coaches had huge conversations on if I had won against Horseheads, I would have gotten it against U-E, but I really wanted to get it here. Fortunately it worked out for me.
“It was very, very special. I am glad I was able to do it.”
Now that he has gotten his 100th career win, the next goal is to try and get to states and bring home a state medal.
“That’s my next step, for sure, that’s my next goal this season,” Smith said.
