Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Corning Hawks got 21 points from Char Starns, but fell to Union Springs in the season opener at the Elmira College Tip-Off Showcase, 49-38.
Sterns had 13 of her 21 in the first half to lead the Hawks.
Deanna Shaddock had seven points and Katie Grover had three points, while Aubrey Rose finished with two points.
Madison Kalet had 20 points to lead Union Springs.
