NEWARK VALLEY — The Edison wrestling team had a pair of champions to highlight their performance at the Larry Goodrich Memorial Tournament.
Mason Vanderhoff won the 118-pound title. He was 5-0 on the day with three tech falls and two falls. He beat Rush Henrietta’s Christian Englert by fall in 3:15 in the final.
Greg Golden won the 175-pound title. He was 4-0 with two falls and two tech falls on the day. He pinned Josh Johnson of Elmira in 1:15 in the final.
Rocco Fanchi was sixth at 138, going 2-2 on the day with a fall and he lost to Logan Davis of Newark Valley by fall in 3:19 in the fifth-place match. Jace Schiller was seventh at 165. He was 3-2 on the day with three pins.
Cameron Richards (190) was 2-3 with two falls, Jaeden Baldwin (285) was 2-3, Daniel Cruz (150) was 1-2, Aiden Quackenbush (175) was 1-3 with a fall, and Austin Donahue (118) was 1-1 before medical forfeiting out of the tournament. Cameron Southard (126) was 0-3.
Edison was 11th on the day and Newark Valley won the title.
“Extremely pleased by the effort and output shown by our group today. Golden and Vanderhoff led the way, with both looking sharp in their first action of the year,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “But all 10 that we brought today competed and performed at high levels throughout in what is always a very strong test to open our season.”
Elmira was fifth on the day with a score of 127.5.
Ryder DePadua-Reese won the 138-pound title. He won 1-0 over Kyle Ritson of Whitney Point in the final.
Lavonte Gibbons won the title at 144. He had a 17-1 technical fall win over Logan Rhodes of Newark Valley in the final.
Elmira’s Dameon Barner was fourth at 103, falling by forfeit in the third-place match.
Carter McKernan was fourth at 118. He was edged 3-2 in the third-place match by O-M’s Nicky Source.
Ben Guyette of Elmira was ninth at 150. He had a pin in 1:51 over Shaun Wheat of Central Valley in the ninth-place match.
Scott Fairbanks was fourth at 157. Gavin Horton was 13th at the weight. Fairbanks fell 6-1 to Newark VAlley’s Logan Woodin in the third-place match. Horton won by fall in 3:30 over Kolton Nash of Dryden in the 13th-place match.
Arius Bradbury was ninth at 165. He won by technical fall 18-3 over Colin Mancari of Rush-Henrietta in the ninth-place match.
Johnson was runner-up at 175, falling to Golden in the final.
Saw Lil Htet of Elmira was 11th at 215. Jeremiah Miller was 16th. Lin Htet won by fall in 3:38 over Binghamton’s Abdul Jabiru in the 11th-place match and Miller fell by forfeit in the 16th-place match.
