HORSEHEADS — Coming off a fourth-place finish at states during the fall season, the Horseheads Blue Raiders cheer team got back to work last week as they started practices for the winter season.

“I am super excited to start our winter season,” Horseheads coach Kayla Kuhns said. “We have spent the past few years growing and developing skills, and our hard work is starting to pay off.

“We have an amazing group of kids with 13 seniors ready to make this our best season yet. I can’t wait to see how much we can grow and accomplish this year.”

The success this fall is something that can carry over for the team into the winter.

“There is definitely a buzz of excitement in the gym,” Kuhns said. “The team is ready to put in the work and really work toward their goals as a team. They came in throwing new skills and executing them at a high level for the start of the season. It’s going to be a really great season.”

Horseheads has strong numbers as they come into the year.

“We have big numbers this year and it’s really exciting to see our program continue to grow at all three levels,” Kuhns said. “Varsity currently has 19 athletes and 13 of the are seniors. This is an extremely talented group, and their drive and determination never cease to amaze me. We can’t wait to get to learn and compete our winter routine.”
