Southern Tier Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — The Horseheads girls’ swimming and diving team won their sixth straight Class A sectional title on Saturday.
Horseheads posted a score of 511.5 with Ithaca second at 381, followed by Corning at 284. Elmira was sixth at 173 points.
In the 200 medley relay the Blue Raiders won in 1:53.35 followed by Corning (1:56.07) and in the 200 free Ellie Ballard of Corning was second in 2:08.12 followed by Horseheads’ Genevieve Carro (2:08.12). Caroline Wilcox of Horseheads was fifth in 2:13.46 followed by Horseheads’ Lily Hall (2:15.77) and Jackie Mayotte (2:16.73). In the B final Maren Novotny of Elmira was 12th in 2:22.72 with teammate Alyssa Murphy 14th in 2:26.56.
Mia Carro won the 200 IM in 2:17.16 and teammate Ali Mosher was third in 2:22.36. Elmira’s Aubrey Newkirk was sixth in 2:34.61 followed by Horseheads’ Lizzy Brown (2:35.46) and Ava Klesh (2:37.86). Elmira’s Bridget Hagan was 12th in 2:52.20 and teammate Harper Andzulis was 16th in 2:58.26.
Horseheads’ Karina Lapierre won the 50 free in 25.16, making states with her prelim time. Teammate Becky Hutcheson was sixth in 27.26 followed by teammate Maeve Manwaring (27.78). Erika Liu of Corning was ninth in 27.92, winning the B flight, followed by Horseheads’ Hailey Stanton (28.02) and Leah Church of Elmira (28.04). Corning’s Leah Muckey was 15th in 28.69 followed by Brooke Cross of Elmira (28.83).
Mia Carro of Horseheads won the 100 fly in 1:00.91 followed by Corning’s Alyssa Reimsnyder (1:05.08), Elmira’s Madelyn Cavalier (1:07.11) and Reese Collier of Horseheads (1:07.41). Newkirk was sixth in 1:11.77 followed by Lillian Spicher of Horseheads (1:14.01). Horseheads’ Olivia Schwab was 12th in 1:19.89 with Elmira’s Eleanor Hagan 14th in 1:21.79 followed by Bridget Hagan (1:23.55).
Alexys Nale of Corning won the 100 free in 55.75 and teammate Maria Kuksenkova was fifth in 1:00.07. Manwaring was seventh in 1:01.58. Stanton was ninth in 1:01.36, winning the B flight, followed by Hutcheson (1:01.85), Church (1:03.99), Muckey (1:04.57) and Horseheads’ Clara Wilson (1:05.22). Cross was 16th in 1:08.92.
Ballard was second in the 500 free in 5:39.08 and Brown was sixth in 6:01.49 followed by Hall (6:06.49) and Mayotte (6:12.49). Payton Dotts of Elmira was 12th in 6:40.67 with Corning’s Andrea Jarjanovic 16th in 7:11.50.
Horseheads won the 200 free relay in 1:43.12 to make states with a team of Lapierre, Mia and Genevieve Carro and Ali Mosher. Corning took third in 1:52.13. Elmira was seventh in 2:00.03.
Lapierre won the 100 back in 1:01.81 followed by Mosher (1:02.50). Cavalier was fourth in 1:07.13 followe by Reimsnyder (1:07.13) and Corning’s Nicole Miller (1:08.19). Wilcox was 10th in 1:11.48.
Ellie Padgett of Horseheads was 10th in 1:14.49. Elmira’s Dotts was 14th in 1:17.81 followed by teammate Jane Hagan (1:20.69).
Nale was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.54 with Genevieve Carro tied for third in 1:17.25. Liu was sixth in 1:18.22. Spicher was ninth in 1:21.72 with Novotny 11th in 1:23.01. Emma Coeffic was 14th in 1:25.08.
In the 400 free relay Corning was second in 3:53.38 followed by Horseheads (4:05.81) with Elmira fifth in 4:16.07.
CLASS C
Notre Dame took sixth at 123 points with Watkins Glen/O-M winning at 390.
Notre Dame was sixth in the 200 medley relay in 2:11.45 and in the 200 free Ella Cain was ninth in 2:25.69.
Leah Gonzalez was fifth in the 200 IM in 2:32.27. Charlotte Welliver was third in the 50 free in 26.71. Hannah Gonzalez was 11th in the 100 fly in 1:20.02.
Welliver was seventh in the 100 free in 1:00.65 with Madeline Lincoln 10th in 1:05.44.
Leah Gonzalez was fifth in the 500 free in 5:56.67.
Lincoln was 12th in the 100 back in 1:16.38.
Cain was ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.47 with Hannah Gonzalez 12th in 1:36.54.
