CORNING — The Corning Hawks advanced to the Section IV, Class AAA volleyball championship game with a 3-0 win over Elmira on Wednesday, 25-12, 25-23, 25-17.
“Very exciting, we are very excited to play Ithaca on Saturday,” senior Evie Starns said.
In the second set the Hawks found themselves down big, trailing 19-10 at one point, before they rallied for the win.
“Very stressful, but we had a couple really good serve runs,” Starns said. “Being able to push through the lows of the sets is something we have to bring Saturday to win. We have been working a lot on mentality and endurance. I’m proud of how far we have come and how we can come back from being down now.”
Sam Molingou had eight kills and three blocks for Corning and Char Starns had three points, three aces, seven kills and two blocks.
Paisley Emmick had eight points, an ace, 30 assists and 11 digs and Jillian Wood had 17 points, five aces, four kills and 15 digs.
Melina Schwesinger had eight kills and five digs.
For Elmira Hannah Matthews had five kills, two digs and three assists and Aleah Leonberger had six assists and six serves.
Kylie Leonberger had 10 assists, three serves and a dig and Camille Scoiners had five kills, three blocks, eight serves with three aces and two digs.
Catherine Koski had five kills, a block, four serves with an ace and Katy Longwell had two kills, two blocks, 10 serves, with an ace and a dig.
Cate Lambert had seven serves, with an ace and Ava Cornacchio had two digs.
Corning plays Ithaca in the final at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Tioga High School.
