SECTION 4 BOYS' SOCCER: CORNING EDGED BY ITHACA IN SECTIONAL SEMIS (2025-10-25)

ITHACA — The season came to an end for the Corning boys’ soccer team as they were edged by Ithaca on Saturday night, 2-1 in the Section IV, Class AAA semifinals.

Corning had 12 shots and six corners, compared to four and one corner for Ithaca, but it was the Little Red who found the net one ore time in the game.

“Tough outcome,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “The guys left everything on the field. We hit post and/or cross bar numerous times. (James) Reiter made some key saves. A couple extremely tough calls that didn’t go our way tonight.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the guys for their hard work and perseverance all season long.”

Reiter had 11 saves for Ithaca and Logan Durand had two saves for Corning.

Sotaro Nishiyama and Loic Messinger had goals for Ithaca and Cooper Sargent had a goal for Corning and James Goodman had an assist.
