ELMIRA — The Elmira and Corning boys’ soccer teams played to a 2-2 tie on Thursday night in STAC action.

One game after the Express clinched the STAC West title, they trailed 1-0 at the half, before rallying to take a lead, before Corning tied things late.

Charlie Warner had the first half goal for Corning and it was 1-0 at the break. Kaelan Brenen-Buseck tied things for the Express in the second half, before Dom Capilli gave Elmira a 2-1 lead.

With 15 minutes left Landyn Proudfoot tied the game for Corning and neither team would score the rest of regulation or overtie.

Nolan Kennedy and Luca Capilli had assists for Elmira and Liam Krebs had a Corning assist.

“This was a pretty highly spirited match that clashes different play styles,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “Both sides with a couple of quality finishes. Sometimes a draw isn’t a fair outcome, but in this instance a win would have been tough for either team on the bottom end to take. We will get to work to prepare for sectional play coming up.”

“Very intense, competitive, but kids on the team are all friends,” Luca Capilli said. “Very good atmosphere, very competitive and a good game.

“It’s great to get some challenge in, Corning is a great team. It’s great to get on the pitch and play them and prepare for the postseason.”
