Southern Tier Sports ReportNEWFIELD — The Edison football team scored 28 second-quarter points on their way to a 54-14 win over Newfield on Saturday afternoon.
Jace Schiller threw for 219 yards and three scores on 7-for-14 passing and ran for 143 yards and three scores on 11 carries.
With the win Edison, ranked fifth in the state in eight-man football, moves to 3-0 on the year.
Schiller started the scoring at 5:33 of the first quarter on a two-yard run. The two-point try failed.
Schiller hit Marquis Bradley Jr. on a 51-yard touchdown with 16 seconds left in the quarter and the two-point try failed.
Schiller hit Niko Cheplick on a 25-yard scoring play with 8:57 left in the half.
Malcolm Jenkins of Newfield had a one-yard run with 5:09 left in the half.
Schiller ran in for a 54-yard score just 20 seconds later and Schiller hit Bradley Jr. on the two-point try to make it 26-6.
Schiller ran for a 10-yard score with 2:19 before the half and with just 33 seconds left in the half Schiller hit Cheplick on a 33-yard score to make it 40-6 at the break.
With 6:24 left in the third Za’Quan Mosley ran for a 16-yard score and Bentley Stroman caught the two-point pass from Schiller.
Warrior-Malachi Miner threw a 29 yard pass to LeMari Spears and Minor had the two-point run.
Mosley had a 39-yard run with 8:22 left in the game to cap the scoring.
Mosley ran for 75 yards and Mark Cornacchio ran for 26 yards.
Cheplick had four grabs for 135 yards and two scores and Bradley Jr. had two catches for 78 yards and a score, while Cornacchio had a catch for six yards.
Miner threw for 124 yards and a score and. Spears had four grabs for 109 yards.
Bradley Jr. had five tackles and a half a sack and a half of tackle for a loss.
Daniel Cruz had a sack and a tackle for a loss and Mosley had three tackles, a tackle and a half for a loss and a half sack. Paxton Hoover had three tackles.
