SOUTHPORT — Football is back at Notre Dame as the Crusaders returned a varsity eight-man team to the field, falling to Waterville in the opener, 48-0.
It was 13-0 after one quarter, before Waterville scored 22 in the second to go up 35-0 at the half.
Rylan Stanton had a seven-yard touchdown catch from Ian Carney and Carney hit the kick at 9:49. Carney scored on a 54-yard keeper on the next drive with 1:56 left in the first half.
Carney had 21, 14 and seven yard touchdown runs in the second quarter and he threw a two-point try and kicked two extra points.
Ryan Mosher had a two-yard run in the third for a score and Brycen Kilts had a 19-yard run, with Carney hitting the kick.
Carney ran for 91 yards and was 5-for-6 for 52 yards and a score. Mosher ran for 70 yards, Kilts 38 and Ethan Kiball 15.
Stanton had three grabs for 36 yards and Kilts caught two for 16 yards.
Luka Clark had 22 yards rushing for Notre Dame and Dom Capriccio ran for 16 yards. Archer Choic threw for five yards, to Morgan One.
Clark had a forced fumble and fumble recovery in the first half.
