SOUTHPORT — The Notre Dame baseball team rallied for an 8-7 in eight innings win over South Kortright to advance to the Section IV, Class D championship.
Notre Dame led 4-0 through six innings, but South Kortright scored seven in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Malachi Cain started the bottom of the seventh with a double and Casey Kraeger walked. After an out was recorded, Colton Welch walked to load the bases.
Jhamez Boyd grounded out, scoring Can to make it 7-5 with two outs.
Anthony Barkley drew a walk and Luke Richards delivered a two-out, two-run single to tie the game.
In the eighth inning Brendan O’Brien was hit by a pitch and after an out was recorded, Kraeger was hit by a pitch. Colin Strong then singled on a bunt to the pitcher scoring O’Brien for the winning run.
Richards went 6 2/3 innings, striking out 15 and allowing four runs on three hits. Boyd worked the last 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and three runs, striking out two.
Richards was 3-for-5 with three RBI and a double and Cain had two hits, with a double and a run scored.
Bakley, Sebastian Capriotti and Strong all had hits in the game. Barkley, Boyd, Capriotti, O’Brien, Kraeger and Welch scored runs.
Boyd, Capriotti and Strong all had RBI.
