CORNING — In the makeup of a game from earlier this year, the Corning Hawks celebrated senior day with a 12-2 win over Vestal.
Earlier this year the two teams were tied when the game was stopped. STAC rules requires the game to restart.
On Tuesday a seven-run second inning broke things open as Corning, 11-2 and ranked fifth in Class AAA in the state, defeated Vestal, 9-3 and ranked 10th in AA.
It was 1-0 after one inning, before Corning scored seven in the second.
Daphne Sherman hit a two-run home run in the second inning and senior Kayleigh Sparks had two hits on senior day with a run scored.
Senior Lili MacNeal had a double and scored a run.
Senior Kendall Curreri had a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Mattisen Johnston had a hit, an RBI and three runs scored.
CJ Harris, Keana Mann, Mia Madden and Katie Grover all had hits for Corning. Grover scored twice and Harri and Mann each scored runs, while Madden had two RBI.
Sophie Schoonover had two RBI and scored a run.
Johnston went the distance on the mound, striking out nine.
