
ELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison baseball team beat Spencer Van-Etten Candor 17-6 on Monday in five innings to capture the IAC Large School South Championship.
“As a team we set a few goals at the start of the season,” Edison coach Chris Bennett said. “One of those goals was to win our division and we accomplished that tonight, it was a total team effort and I am really proud of this team. They work extremely hard everyday and are a great group to be around, I’m just really proud.”
Paxton Hoover worked 3 2/3 innings, striking out four and allowing five hits. Zach Crown struck out three in 1 1/3 innings, allowing one hit.
Niko Cheplick was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Dylan Beam was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Drew Slaven was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI and Hoover was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Jace Schiller had a double and two RBI and Caden Collier had a hit and two RBI.
Bently Stroman and Braedyn Gulich each had a hit and an RBI and Keegan Kelly had an RBI.
