HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: CORNING EDGED 2-1 BY 11-0 TEAM OUT OF VIRGINIA (2025-04-16)

MYRTLE BEACH — The Corning softball team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 game against an unbeaten McLean, Va. team on Wednesday.

Corning, 5-1, is ranked third in Class AAA in New York. McLean’s third baseman is an Illinois commit and their right fielder is a Coastal Carolina commit. McLean is 11-0 this year.

Corning outhit McLean 8-4, but McLean limited the Hawks to one run, while three Hawks errors led to two runs, none earned, against Corning pitcher Matti Johnston.

Johnston allowed just four hits and the two unearned runs, striking out six in the game.

Sophie Schoonover and Lauren Teribury had two hits each, Teribury had an RBI.

Daphne Sherman had a double and Kendall Curreri, Lauren DeRosa and Kaela Mann had hits. Katie Grover scored the Corning run.
