
SYRACUSE — Area bowlers head to the AMF Strike N Spare Lanes starting Friday for the NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships.
After 11:30 a.m. opening ceremonies on Friday the Elmira boys and girls hit the lanes for the Division I Championships at noon.
On Saturday the Corning boys have one bowler at states, Horseheads has a school record three individuals, half of the composite team from Section IV, and the Corning girls have three bowlers in competition.
The Elmira boys have the highest five bowler average among the D1 teams. They have a five-bowler average of 1,079. Trent Belloma enters at 225, Skylar Shadduck at 222, Alex Gable at 217, Logan Card at 212 and Frankie D’Angelo is at 203.
East Syracuse Minor is at 1,064 entering the tournament and East Slip is at 1,056.
Arlington is at 1,028, CNS and Bellmore Merrick are both at 1,027 and Columbia is at 1,015.
Kenmore is at 996, Spencerport at 983 and Middletown at 952.
For the girls Elmira enters with a five-bowler average of 937. Bella Wood is at 206, Abbi Hink is at 194, Madi Smith at 191, Madyson Wasicki at 185 and Evaya Gardner at 161. Izzy Stanley is at 146.
Elmira has the fifth-best five-bowler average entering the tournament. East Slip is at 994 and Rome Free Academy at 988, while Mohonasen is at 987 and Fulton at 976.
North Rockland is at 921, followed by Frontier (918), Rush Henrietta (880), Macarthur (820) and Kingston (807).
The girls’ composite team bowls at 8 a.m. on Saturday and the boys at 2 p.m.
For the girls Corning’s Kylie Downing enters with an average of 204, Jadyn O’Dell (189) and Zoe Harmer (185).
Downing has the seventh highest average of any bowler in the girls’ composite. The top average is 224, with 216 next.
For the boys Noah Cady of Horseheads and Zach Sturdevant of Corning are both at 231. Michael Rennells of Horseheads is at 212, followed by teammate Cayden Bowman at 211.
231 is tied for fifth best. The top averages are 240 and 238.
Zach Crown of Edison is in the Division II Composite competition. He has a 225 average. Landon Butenko of Chenango Forks is the top average among the bowlers in the field at 245. The second best average is 244.
A number of the top averages for the DII composite come out of Section IV, where all 7 of the bowlers have averages of at least 215.
