
ENDICOTT — A last-second three by Union-Endicott brought an end to the Horseheads boys’ basketball season as they fell to the Tigers 55-54 in the Class AA semifinals on Tuesday night.
Joseph Gennarelli Jr. hit a step-back three with two seconds left to lift the Tigers to the win.
Horseheads led the game 34-21 at the half and 45-37 through three quarters.
Jack Fesetch led Horseheads in the game with 29 points, including nine three pointers.
Horseheads was up by two with 41 seconds left with Horseheads got a three from Mason Holloway to go up 54-49.
After U-E forced a turnover, Qadir Shabazz hit a corner three with 10 seconds left to cut the Horseheads lead to 54-52.
The Tigers then forced a five-second violation with 8.8 seconds left to set up Gennarelli’s game-winner.
Horseheads didn’t get to the foul line in the game, while U-E was 16-for-24 from the line in the game.
The loss ends the Blue Raiders season, and ends the basketball coaching career of longtime Blue Raiders coach Jeff Limoncello.
The Tigers will take on top-seeded Binghamton for the title at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Visisons Memorial Arena.
