
HORNELL — A low-scoring second half cost Elmira as they fell at Hornell on Monday, 49-43.
Elmira led 15-5 after one quarter and 30-20 at the half, but Hornell outscored the Express 29-13 in the second half of the game.
“A tough fourth quarter doomed us today,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “We lost their shooters in the fourth quarter and that was the difference. Not the way you want to go into the postseason, but we have a couple weeks to refresh and reenergize.”
Elmira was up 36-35 after three quarters, but got outscored 14-7 in the fourth.
Jordyn Dyring led Hornell with 22 points and Raegan Avingham had 14 points. Both hit three threes in the game. Selena Maldonado had 10 points.
Mariah Matias had 17 points for Elmira and Addison Taft had 15 points.
Alyvia Woodruff had five points and Miley Baker and Shamir Harris each had three points in the game.
