STAC GIRLS' BASKETBALL: THIRD QUARTER THE KEY AS ELMIRA TOPS CORNING (2025-02-13)

ELMIRA — The Elmira girls’ basketball team picked up a 46-41 win over Corning on Thursday night.

“A good win as we are still undermanned, but kids stepped up big time yet again,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “We really turned up the heat in the third quarter and the girls responded well.

“We have one more regular season game and then we get a couple weeks to get healthy and get some pieces back and ready for sectionals. But, extremely proud of the effort tonight.”

Elmira led 11-10 after one quarter, before Corning led 19-18 at the half.

Elmir aoutscored Corning 17-7 in the third in the win.

Mariah Matias and Addison Taft each finished with 15 points for Elmira. Matias had four in the fourth quarter.

Ashaya Wallace had 11 points, with four in the final quarter, going 2-for-2 from the line in the quarter.

Zhamir Harris had three points, on a fourth quarter three, and Alyvia Heath had two points in the game.

Char Starns had 19 points for Corning and Aubrey Rose finished with seven points.

Evelyn Starns and Gracie Kio each finished with six points for the Hawks and Kennedy Driscoll finished with two points, while McKenna Kempton had one point.
