HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: ELMIRA EDGED BY NEWARK VALLEY IN NONLEAGUE MATCHUP (2025-01-16)

ELMIRA — The Elmira wrestling team was edged by Newark Valley on Thursday night, 36-36 in a non-league matchup.

Elmira was docked one point for unsportsmanlike in the match to make the difference in score. But, Newark Valley would have won the match on criteria if not for the docked point.

Newark Valley’s Jacob Shipman won by technical fall 18-3 over Dom Romeo in 5:02 at 108 and at 116 Newark Valley’s Chance Spoonhower pinned Jackson Watson in 3:15.

Newark Valley’s Trevor Middendorf won by forfeit at 124 and at 131 Ryder DePadua-Reese pinned Leland Houston.

Lavonte Gibbons of Elmira pinned Logan Rhodes in 1:19 at 138 and at 145 Elmira’s Max Collins got a forfeit win.

Marcos Escalante of Newark Valley edged Scott Fairbanks 5-4 at 152 and at 160 Arius Bradbury of Elmira pinned Cadin Creeley in 2:50.

Gabe Merrill of Newark Valley won by major decision 13-4 over Liam Ogden at 170 and at 190 Titus Callahan of Newark Valley pinned Mason Mack in 2:52 at 190.

Zahkye Jenkins of Elmira pinned Jack Blomberg in 1:29 at 215 and at 285 Carlee Vice of Newark Valley pinned Josh Mitchell in 2:14.

At 101 Nick Johnson of Elmira pinned Kenny Slater in 2:47.

Konner Benedict (145), Joey Mastrantonio (152), Maize Miller (170) and Colin Baer (190) all had wins in extra matches for Elmira.
