SOUTHPORT — As the first week of winter sports practices begin, the Notre Dame boys’ basketball team was on the court, preparing for the season.
It seems like something simple, but it’s special for them to be back after a season where things were anything but normal.
“It’s awesome,†Notre Dame coach Nick Weiermiller said. “I think we are all really excited about playing a full season again. Just getting in the gym and being able to play basketball. They are fired up about it.â€
This year the team was able to have a more normal offseason to get ready for the season.
“We were able to play in the Waverly summer league this year,†Weiermiller said. “Kids were able to go to basketball camps and clinics. Even what was beneficial this year was the season started a little later than normal. We were able to have time to have some open gyms and get kids in there. Usually we have kids who are still finishing up football and soccer and miss the first week of practice, so we are really lucky to be out here and on the court.â€
The Crusaders have solid numbers, and experience, as they prepare for the season.
“I think 13 kids right now on the roster,†Weiermiller said. “We have a good amount of seniors, we really do have a good group of kids that came out and have worked together for the past couple of years and are really excited about putting together a good team this year.â€
