HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: LOCALS SHINE AT ACTION FIGURE RELAYS (2024-09-07)

PAINTED POST — It was a successful day for Corning athletes at the Action Figure Relays at Watson Homestead.
In the girls’ 2x2 mile relay Elianna Schneider and Leila Ianovici of Corning won in 13:37 followed by Elmira’s Ella Devlin and Madelyn Wise in 27:26. Corning’s B team of Madie Sweet and Kendall Curreri took fourth overall in 29:32 followed by teammates Layla Byzitter and Macailyn York in 31:50 and Anna Patton and Lauren Williams of Corning in 32:45.
Corning’s Sebastian Boutwell and Bryce Hammond won the boys’ 2x2 mile relay in 21:47 followed by teammates Gregory Homa and Nicholas Ferratelli in 22:01. Corning’s Christopher Lawson and Samuel Kirk took sixth in 22:56 followed by teammates Graham Wightman and Ashtyn Stark in 24:34.
Jaxyn Mahoney and Olivia Martinec of Corning won the mixed 2x2 mile relay in 23:39 and teammates Michael Naylor and Madeline Kirk took third in 26:48 followed by teammates Edward Witt and Kaitlyn Lee in 29:33.
Reed Fuchs and Jacqueline Warner of Corning took sixth in 32:03 followed by teammates Ethen Julien and Emma Pfleegor in 36:04.
In the open two-mile race Corning’s Kyra Gross was the top local in 31st in 14:07.72. Riley Hubisz of Ithaca won in 10:22.85 and Tsadia Bercuvitz of Ithaca was the top female in fourth overall in 11:09.27.
Overall in the two-mile results Mahoney had the second fastest time in 10:43 followed by Boutewell (10:45) and Homa (10:55). Hammond was eighth (11:02) followed by Ferratella (11:06). Lawson was 13th in 11:11 and Samuel Kirk was 19th in 11:45.
Devlin was the second fastest female overall in 13:26 followed by Ianovici (13:37) and Schneider (13:39). Wise was eighth in 14:00 followed by Gross (14:07.7). Curreri was next in 14:38 followed by teammates Lillian Deuerlein (14:51.8) and Kirk (14:52). After a U-E runner Sweet was next in 14:54.
In the 4x1 mile co-ed relay Corning’s team of Connor Harrington, Keith Huff, Charlie Wukovitz and Andrew Miller won in 24:21.
Elmira took third in 28:26.3 with a team of Emry Bahantka, Paityn Walburn, Isaac Miller and Molly Doran in 28:26.3.
Corning’s B team had the third best time in 27:59 with a team of Isaac Ballard, Ryan Madden, Jax Adams and Britton Chapman in 27:29 and their female team of Abigail Wagner, Finley Price, Vanessa Topielec and Kateland Dininny had the fourth best time in 28:06.4. Their C team of Sylas Ruza, Maxwell Keegan, Gavin Bierwiller and Nathaniel Carleton had the sixth best time in 29:21.8.
