Southern Tier Sports ReportFall Sports gets into full swing this week as all sports kick off with games for area teams.
Overall this week there are 31 events on the schedule in the shortened week after the Labor Day Holiday on Monday.
There are 10 events Thursday to lead the way this week.
Here’s a look day-by-day at this week’s schedule, including how many events each day.
TUESDAY (5)
* The Horseheads White Golf Team hosts Vestal, while Horseheads Blue is at Owego. Elmira hosts U-E.
* In boys’ soccer the Elmira Express open the season hosting Waverly and Notre Dame is at Union Springs.
WEDNESDAY (2)
* The Edison girls soccer team plays their first ever game, while Notre Dame is at Bishop Kearney.
THURSDAY (10)
* The Elmira swimming a diving team is at Johnson City to start the year.
* The Horseheads boys’ soccer team is at U-E, Elmira is at Maine-Endwell and Corning is at Johnson City.
* The Corning volleyball team hosts Maine-Endwell, Elmira hosts U-E and Horseheads hosts Vestal.
* The Elmira girls’ soccer team hosts Chenango Forks and Corning hosts Johnson City.
* Corning golf hosts Vestal.
FRIDAY (8)
* Horseheads football opens with a Week Zero Game at SUNY Cortland against Watertown.
* The Horseheads white golf team is at Corning.
* Corning tennis is at Johnson City, Horseheads is at U-E and Elmira is at Maine-Endwell.
* Horseheads girls’ soccer hosts U-E, Elmira hosts Maine-Endwell and Edison is at Union Springs.
SATURDAY (6)
* Horseheads, Elmira, Edison and Corning volleyball are all at the Corning Tournament.
* Notre Dame boys soccer hosts Owego, Horseheads is at Athens and Corning hosts Baldwinsville.
* Corning cross country hosts Elmira as part of their opening Action Figures Relay.
* Corning and Notre Dame swimming and diving are at the Waverly Invite.
