Southern Tier Sports ReportOLEAN — The Finger Lakes Falcons 9u baseball team dominated at the 2022 Rumble in the Jungle winning the title.
Four teams competed in the three-day event: Twin Tiers Pride, Lou Gehrig, Gladiators and the Finger Lakes Falcons.
The Falcons won every game in pool play, beating the Gladiators 16-1, the Twin Tiers Pride 12-7 and Lou Gehrig 9-3 to land the top seed headed into the finals Sunday.
Sunday’s semifinals had the Falcons beating the Gladiators again, 11-2, while Lou Gehrig beat Twin Tiers Pride in extra innings.
The Falcons brought home the championship with an 11-1 win over Lou Gehrig in four innings.
Strong pitching from the Falcons was backed up by solid defense in the field leading to low scoring by the Falcons opponents.
On offense the Falcons had strong bats with three players seeing double digit hits for the weekend and every player had hits multiple times in the weekend. In total the team had 82 hits over the weekend.
This was the second tournament for the young team, they also won the Dunn Classic in May.
