SECTION 4 BOYS' SOCCER: HORSEHEADS FALLS TO VESTAL IN SECTIONAL FINAL (2026-10-30)

Southern Tier Sports Report
WAVERLY — The Horseheads Blue Raiders got within a goal at the half, but that’s as close as things got as they fell to Vestal 5-1 in the Section IV, Class AA final on Thursday night.

Horseheads fell down 2-0 early on a pair of free kick goals where they buried a rebound on one and drew a penalty kick on one.

Dominic Wood scored off a corner kick from Owen Bachert with nine seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Vestal scored off two counters and added another free kick in the second half.

“Unfortunate as the boys played pretty well for most of the match and we had our chances, we just made a few uncharacteristic mistakes and it cost us,” Horseheads coach Mark Mucci said. “Really proud of the season that these guys had. It was a lot of fun and it was a great bunch of truly great kids to work with.”
