ELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison girls’ soccer team wrapped up the season with a 3-1 win over Dryden on Friday night.
Edison led 1-0 at the half as they finished the year 5-2 in their final seven games of the year.
“Incredibly impressed by this team’s ability to continually show up, even through adversity, and perform,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “This is a special group of student athletes, and their effort this season was another huge step forward for this program.
“We finished our final seven games with a 5-2 record, including three wins over teams we had previously lost to and a 2OT loss to the division champs. It’s disappointing that despite this, we finish the season ineligible for sectionals due to an outdated criteria, as this group has more than earned the right to represent their school in that competition. But, I remain proud of the girl’s growth both individually and as a team this season, and our group of seniors will be missed dearly.”
Eliza Crandall started the scoring at 14:56. She made it 2-0 at 52:28 on a penalty kick. After Dryden’s Esther Songput scored at 61:54 cut the lead to 2-1, Crandall capped her hat trick at 73:49.
Edison had 11 shots and eight corners and Dryden had four shots and no corners.
Kaylynn Tarby had three saves for the shutout in goal for Edison and Fiona McDonnell had five saves for Dryden.
