ON TAP TODAY: CORNING RUNNERS COMPETE AT REGIONALS, INDOOR T&F SEASON BEGINS (2021-11-27)

Southern Tier Sports Report
There’s a bit of an overlap this weekend as some of the area’s top runners will be wrapping up the cross country season with regional races, while other area runners kick off the indoor track and field season at Ithaca College.

Here’s a look at todays’ events.

CROSS COUNTRY
EASTBAY/FOOTLOCKER REGIONALS

At Van Cortland Park, The Bronx
Corning’s state champion, Jack Gregorski, and fourth-place runner, Ashton Bange, along with 12th place finisher in the girls race, Sarah Lawson, head to the Bronx for a regional meet. The three will take on some of the best in the state. Both Gregorski and Bange are in a loaded boys’ field that features top runners from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts, Vermont and Delaware. The boys field has 11 runners with speed ratings over 190 and Gregorski sits with the 12th best heading into the race at 189.77. Gregorski is listed as one of Mile Split New York’s best bets in the race. Lawson is listed as a dark horse in the girls race, that features the top runners from throughout the Northeast.

NIKE REGIONAL MEET
At Bowdoin Park, Wappingers Falls
The rest of Corning’s runners head to the same site as last week’s Federation’s Meet for Nike Regionals. For the boys state-medalist Matthew Gensel will lead a team that also includes Joshua Beres, DJ Cornfield, Gabe Cornfield, Marcus Homa, Tevin McLaren and Nathan Webb. For the girls the runners competing will be Sadie Beres, Cassandra Collins, Christina Gaskievicz, Ella Grinnell, Olivia Grinnell, Julia Hluck and Bri Urban.

TRACK AND FIELD
ELMIRA, HORSEHEADS AT ITHACA

The Express and Blue Raiders indoor track and field teams kick off the season with a meet at Ithaca College.
