The NYSPHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships take center stage today as Corning sends one individual, in two events, and a pair of relays in swimming, and Corning and Horseheads each have a diver competing.

“They are excited for the competition and are so proud to represent Corning at the state meet,” Corning coach Alyssa Helsing said of her athletes.

At Ithaca College, 10:30 a.m. swim, 3 p.m. diving
The swimmers and divers head to Ithaca College. Swimming begins at 10:30 a.m. and at 3 p.m. the diving begins.

Angie McKane of Corning comes in as the second seed in the 100 fly with a top time of 55.36. Tess Howley of Sacred Heart Academy is the top seed at 52.09.

McKane is the ninth seed in the 50 free in 24.10. The top seed is at 23.26.

Corning is seeded 19th in the 200 free relay with a team of McKane, Kara Peters, Carolyn Heckle and Vanessa Turner in a time of 1:40.84. The top seed is Sacred Heart with a time of 1:37.39.

In the 400 free relay McKane, Peters, Turner and Carolyn Heckle are seeded 24th in 3:41.62. The top seed is 3:30.61.

“I’m excited to be able to close out my senior season with a first experience at states,” Turner said. “The fact that I’m here with some of my closest friends just makes the experience that much more special.”

“I’m proud to represent Corning at the state level,” Peters added.

In the diving Brooke Terwilliger of Corning is seeded 15th at 493.35. Horseheads’ Emma Bachert is seeded 42nd at 443.10. The top seed is at 576.80.
