COLLEGE HOCKEY: ELMIRA'S BEECHER STARTING TO SHINE FOR MICHIGAN (2021-11-16)

Southern Tier Sports Report
Coming off injuries can be tough.

For Elmira’s Johnny Beecher he’s starting to round back into full form and he broke out with two big games recently.

Playing for Michigan, ranked 2nd in the nation, Beecher had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win over No. 19 Penn State last week.

Beecher, a junior, is Michigan’s active leader in goals against Penn State. He scored his fourth career goal against the Nittany Lions as he posted up in the right circle with his stick in the air and and drove home a one-timer for the goal.

After his goal, Beecher dropped a pass through his legs for teammate Garrett Van Wyhe who scored.

It was Beecher’s second two-point game in his three games since returning from injury. A week earlier Beecher had a goal and an assist against Michigan State.

Beecher, who is from Elmira, was the 30th overall selection, in the first round, in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Michigan’s team is loaded with first-round draft picks, including Owen Powers and Luke Hughes, who went first and fourth, respectively, in this past year’s NHL Draft.

Michigan hosts No. 14 Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday.
