HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' LACROSSE: BLUE RAIDERS RETURN STRONG GROUP OF PLAYERS AS THEY OPEN SEASON FRIDAY (2023-03-23)

Southern Tier Sports Report
The Horseheads boys’ lacrosse team kicks off the spring sports season for area teams as they take to the field with a home game against Maine-Endwell on Friday night.

Here’s a look at the Blue Raiders lacrosse team.

HORSEHEADS BOY’S’ LACROSSE
Coaches name: Jason Neubauer
Assistants: Lee Spencer, Shane Lese, and Bailey Bourgeois
Record last year: 11-4 Regular Season (Lost in Sectional Final to Vestal)
Returning athletes: We are returning 15 players from last year’s team including 4 All-League Selections (Marshall Winkky, Domanik West, Alex Johanson, and Garret Elston)
Comments on returning athletes: We have very strong senior leadership this year.  This collection of boys have been playing together since elementary school.
Newcomers: We have potentially 15-16 new players on varsity this season. 
Thoughts on newcomers: Our JV team last season didn’t lose a Section IV game, and we are excited to bring most of that talent up to the top of the program.
Thoughts on the team this year: I am excited to see this group come together this spring.  I have watched many of them grow up over the years, as I also am the President of the Horseheads Youth Lacrosse Club.  Being able to see the boys come full circle on their lacrosse journey is a privilege.  This may be our deepest team we have every had, where we will have daily competition in practice at every position.
Thoughts on the league this year: The quality of play in Section IV is improving, as certain programs are on the rise and other programs who have had a few down years are coming back.  We will compete in the Class B bracket this year along with Vestal, Ithaca, and Union-Endicott.
Any athletes who may be approaching milestones this season: Marshall Winkky will be entering his 5th season wearing a varsity uniform (he was called up during his 8th grade season).
