HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: CORNING BOYS WIN REGIONALS TO MAKE NATIONALS; CORNING'S LAWSON, ELMIRA'S MORDVINOVA MAKE NATIONALS ON GIRLS SIDE (2022-11-26)

The Corning boys won the title at Nike Regionals and will head to Nike Nationals in Portland, Oregon, while Corning’s Sarah Lawson and Vicky Mordvinova of Elmira also qualified for nationals.

Corning, running as the Corning track club, won at 71 points, edging Assisi XC who had a 76.

Ashton Bange led Corning with a ninth place finish in 16:26.7.

Gabe Cornfield followed up his state medal performance at the NYSPHAA Championships by taking 20th in 16:44.1 in regionals on Saturday.

Marcus Homa was 24th in 16:46 and Tevin McLaren was 34th in 16:52.1. DJ Cornfield was 39th in 17:02.

Joshua Beres was 62nd in 17:29.3 and Jaxyn Mahoney was 69th in 17:33.9.

Lawson took seventh in the girls race at 18:40.6 and Corning was fourth at 130. Kinetic RC won at 19 points.

Mordvinova was ninth, to earn the last spot at nationals, with a time of 18:49.6.

Sadie Beres was 52nd for Corning in 20:59.5 and Lauren Roche was 54th in 21:04.4. Taylor Farrell was 65th in 21:46 and Cassandra Collins was 69th in 21:48.9, while Meghan McLaughlin was 70th in 21:52.4. Ella Grinnell was 78th in 22:09.9 and

Elmira’s Ella Devlin was 62nd in 21:34.1 and Payton Ross was 87th in 22:33.7. Mariah Faucett was 106th in 28:05.5.

Corning also had a boys team running in the open 5K. They took fourth at 155 points.

Elmira also ran in the open race and Caleb Belanger was 18th in 18:13.9. Duane Nichols was 175th in 23:36.9.

Gregory Homa led Corning with a 23rd place finish in 18:17.9. Aidan Kahabka was 26th in 18:27.2 and Sebastian Boutwell was 34th in 18:44.5. Joe Caruso was 63rd in 19:29.9 and Nathaniel Jennings was 79th in 19:57.2. Nick Ferratella was 105th in 20:35.5. Ethan Ferrie was 134th in 21:22.1.

On the girls side Corning was 10th in the open race at 197 points.

Olivia Murch was 43rd in 23:24.6 and Elianna Schneider was 45th in 23:26.9. Kendall Curreri was 65th in 24:13.2 and Abby Reppert was 71st in 24:37.7. Sofia Scouten was 91st in 25:35.5.
