ELMIRA — Hollis Berry '25 and Chris Powell '25 each notched a victory for the Elmira College men's wrestling program on Wednesday night as the Soaring Eagles hosted Alfred State College inside Speidel Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Alfred State opened the dual with three victories via forfeit (125, 133, and 141) before the first contested bout of the night would be held at 149. Selvin Maldonado '25 made his debut for the Soaring Eagles and would battle against Sean Peterson, who entered the night regionally ranked at 141 pounds. Peterson would outlast Maldonado in the bout and notched an 8-5 decision for the Pioneers.

At 174 pounds, Berry bumped up a weight for the Purple & Gold to face the Pioneers' Cale Bartosch. The scoring would come down to the final seconds of the third period as Berry jumped ahead 6-3 on the scoreboard. Bartosch would tally a point via an escape along with an additional point via riding time, but Berry would hold on for the 6-5 decision.

The Pioneers notched a victory via a pin at 184 pounds as Sean Malenfant took down Elmira's Bryan Stafford '26 at the 1:15 mark of the first period. The Purple & Gold would end the night on a positive note as Powell faced the Pioneers' Evan Albrecht at 285 pounds. Powell would show control and temp early in the bout as scoring would be at a premium. A late escape as time expired in the first period would give Albrecht a 1-0 lead. Powell responded with several points in the second period to regain control of the bout and would eventually defeat Albrecht via a 7-1 decision.

UP NEXT:
The Purple & Gold will have a well-deserved break over the next month before their next competition. Elmira returns to the mat for a dual against Ursinus on December 11 beginning at 1 p.m.
