HORSEHEADS GRAD CARSON SMITH NAMED EMPIRA 8 GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR FOR KEUKA (2022-11-08)

Southern Tier Sports Report
Keuka College freshman Carson Smith, a Horseheads graduate, was named the Empire 8 Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year on Tuesday.

Smith was also named First Team All-Conference. He is the first Keuka College student-athlete to win an Empire 8 individual award in school history and joins Holly Reynolds from the 2018-19 Women's Golf team as the only student-athletes from Keuka College to earn First Team All-Empire 8.

Smith had a big debut season for the Green and Gold. He posted a 12-save shutout against eventual Empire 8 champions Medaille University early in the season for his first career shutout. He then later blanked Nazareth College with a career-high 15 stops, including turning away a penalty kick.

Carson Smith posted a 1.58 goals against average and a .809 save percentage for the year. His save percentage was the tenth-best in program history. He averaged 5.54 saves per game to lead the Empire 8 overall but stepped his game up even more in conference play. All of his numbers improved against E8 competition as he averaged 7.00 saves per game and stopped 86.3% of his shots faced, both tops in the conference.

It is the second time in Keuka College's 33-year history of men's soccer that they had a player earn conference goalkeeping honors. Carson Smith joins Mike Meskill from the 2009 squad to earn the honor. Meskill was named the 2009 North Eastern Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. He remains one of the top keepers in program history, still holding the career wins and shutout record.
