The Corning Hawks will look to repeat as sectional champions as they head to the Section 4 Cross Country Championships today, while Horseheads, Elmira, Notre Dame and Edison will all be looking to get runners to the state meet.

The Hawks are the defending boys and girls champions, and both have a good shot at repeating. The boys are ranked No. 1 in the state, while the girls are looking for a fourth straight title.

Ashton Bange is the defending boys champion and Sarah Lawson is the defending girls champion as both return for the Hawks.

Elmira’s Vicky Mordvinova was the runner-up last year in Class A and will be one of the top threats. Notre Dame’s Piper Young has made states every year of her career and looks to cap her career with another trip in Class D.

The meet begins at 11 a.m. at Chenango Valley State park with the Class D boys race. The Class D boys are at 11, followed by the Class C girls, the Class D girls and the Class C boys, all a half hour apart.

At 1 p.m. is the awards for the C-D races.

In the afternoon at 1:40 is the Boys A race, followed by Boys B, girls A and girls B, followed by the A-B awards at 3:40 p.m.
