goal-scoring spree to lead his team to a Section IV soccer title, while
NEB freshman Anaiah Kolesar led her team to a District 4 cross country
title. They are the The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional
“Athletes of the Week.”
SVEC’S YOUNG NAMED BOYS REGIONAL “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”Young scored nine goals to lead SVEC to dominating victories in the Section IV Class C semifinal and championship games.
In
the semis, against Bainbridge-Guilford, the Eagles’ senior midfielder
found the back of the net five times, twice on corner kicks. He also
added an assist.
On Saturday, he connected for four goals,
including another corner, as SVEC, ranked ninth in the state, dominated
11th-ranked Trumansburg, 6-2, in the title game.
Honorable
mentions were: Edison’s Dillon Benjamin (football), Cowanesque Valley’s
Kristian Mizdail (cross country), Waverly’s Joey Tomasso (football), and
Towanda’s Grady Flynn (football).
NEB’S KOLESAR NAMED GIRLS REGIONAL “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”Kolesar, a freshman, ran a strong race at the District IV Championships.
She
finished third, helping the Panthers hold off Wyalusing for the
District 4 title, much like how she was able to hold off several runners
for the Bronze.
Honorable were: Cowaensque Valley’s Tori
Stratton (cross country), Athens’ Sara Bronson (cross country),
Corning’s Josie Loeber (soccer), and SVEC’s Ayasha Schweiger (cross
country).
